Breeze Airways to offer flights from Erie to Orlando. When will service start?

Erie will have direct air service to Orlando, Florida, beginning this fall.
Breeze Airways will begin the twice weekly service, on Wednesdays and Saturdays, beginning Nov. 6
Wednesday's announcement was made by Erie International Airport Executive Director Derek Martin; Bud Hafer, director of government and airport affairs for Breeze; and Jake Rouch, president and CEO of the Erie Regional Chamber and Growth Partnership.
The new service follows several years of talks with the Utah-based airline, said Martin, who described Breeze as the nation's "premier low-cost carrier."
Martin credited local legislators, business leaders and the Erie community for helping to land the new service.
"This community came together to make this happen," Martin said.
Breeze Airways fares, options in Erie
The flights will be aboard 137-seat Airbus A220 jets. Fares will range at around $59, Hafer said, depending on options chosen.
The airplanes have 12 premium seats comparable to first-class seating on other carriers. Travelers also can choose from fare bundles available at various price points offering additional legroom, recliner seats, checked luggage, in-flight Wi-Fi and complimentary food and beverages.
"We offer a low price point but a really nice product," Hafer said. "We're excited to get out there and start flying" from Erie.
Breeze Airways serves 60 cities and flies more than 200 routes, Hafer said. In Pennsylvania, the airline also serves Pittsburgh, Lancaster and Wilkes-Barre/Scranton airports.
The airline recently was ranked among the top five "Best Domestic Airlines" by Travel + Leisure, for the third consecutive year.
"Breeze is all-about more affordable, yet elevated travel options, and that’s what we’ll be bringing to Erie," airline founder and CEO David Neeleman said in a statement.
Breeze Airways is offering 35% off round-trip fares system-wide if booked by Aug. 9 for travel from Aug. 28 through Feb. 4, 2025 and from April 28 through May 13, 2025, with the promo code TAKEOFF.
Community commitment
Breeze was launched in 2021 to provide air service at under-served airports, Neeleman said.
"We have continued to see opportunities for growth in Pennsylvania, and Erie is a great example of a market with a large community but limited air service," Neeleman said.
The region’s economic foundation and demand for air service were among the inducements to provide Erie air service, Hafer said.
Planes departing Erie were filled to more than 90% of capacity, on average, through 2023, compared to 83% nationally. American Airlines planes from Erie operated at 98% capacity through the year, Martin said earlier this summer.
Another incentive to airlines is the reduced per-passenger fees charged for airport services. The fees declined from $27.12 per passenger in 2023 to $12.35 this year. Those fees will be waived for two years for a new carrier.
The Fly Erie Fund created by the Erie Regional Chamber and Growth Partnership will provide additional incentives to airlines to operate in Erie.
Businesses and organizations that so far have committed to fund the program include Visit Erie, Erie Events, Erie County Gaming Revenue Authority, City of Erie, Erie Insurance, Hardinger Transportation and McDonald Illig Jones & Britton, Rouch said.
Those businesses, organizations and others not listed or that prefer not to be named are committed to Erie, Rouch said. "They have great faith in Erie and Erie's future."
The new air service by Breeze Airways is a first step toward adding additional carriers and destinations for Erie travelers, Rouch said.
"There is more to do and more service to add."
American Airlines has been the airport's sole carrier since United ended Erie-Chicago service in June 2023.
